More about FSO………

What is Free Space Over Optical system (FSO)?

A Free Space Over Optical system is a point-to-point, infra red, wireless laser transmission designed for the interconnection of two points    which have a direct line of sight. The systems operate by taking a standard data or telecommunications signal, covering it into a digital format and transmitting it through free space. The carrier used for the transmission of this signal is infra red light and is generated by either high power LED or low power laser diode(s).

The easiest way to visualize how the systems work is to imagine two points interconnected with fibre optic cable then remove the fibre. The basic principles for the transmission of a signal along a fibre are the same as for transmission through free space.

The Role of FSO

Free Space Optical (FSO) transmission systems are playing an increasingly important role in the delivery of broadband communications in the Enterprise and wireless backhaul within GSM world. Providing high bandwidth and reliable communications over short distances FSO is extremely quick and simple to deploy.

With the technology free from government licenses and not requiring planning permission then network planners are utilising FSO as an integral tool for network connectivity giving significant benefits in terms of time and cost savings.

From the FSO products of PAV:
